Original Inquiry

Background:

We are an oilfield services company and currently maintain a WAN network using four different suppliers across Canada, one of which is a provincial regulated provider. Our WAN network supports 102 sites in BC, AB, SK, ON and NFLD with 95% of sites in AB. We are going to RFP with six different vendors with the opportunity to either award all sites to one vendor or pick and choose vendors for specific sites.

Question(s) / Request:

1. What type of Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) do you measure with your WAN provider? How accountable to you hold your vendors to these?

2. Is it better to have vendors quote on service levels we outline in the RFP (ie.T1, ADSL) or have vendors recommend service levels based on our usage? Which option provides the best pricing results?

3. Are there any new industry trends for sourcing WAN services? What are the current best practices?

4. Do you have any advice to increase savings with WAN services?

5. Are there any hidden or miscellaneous costs that I need to be aware of that can be addressed during the RFP process?
