As the need grows for creative solutions to address financial, demand and technical challenges, organizations are expanding the size, scope, and complexity of outsourcing arrangements. There is no debating the fact that this growth in outsourcing increases a company's risk profile, but more often than not we let risk dominate the agenda and we lose track of why we did the deal to start with – value generation. So in 2014 Aetna set out to change the internal conversation, and developed an Outsourcing Center of Excellence (OCoE), an enterprise resource for outsourcing tools, expertise and industry best practices, that serves as advisor to the business units on strategy development through deal implementation, with a goal of creating and sustaining value while balancing risk.

Although the OCoE is still in the early stages of maturity, we are excited to share the following and look forward to an interactive discussion:

  • An overview of Aetna's Outsourcing Center of Excellence, including its operating model and organization structure
  • Insights on how embracing the risk culture helped us to create credibility and visibility
  • Lessons learned and continued challenges
