As companies embark on procurement transformation initiatives to achieve excellence, they may already be aware that the key to success is engaging their ‘internal customer’ in this journey. Too often, input from internal customers, who are in fact the raison d’etre for the Procurement function, is not considered when defining the vision and transformation strategy. Furthermore, engaging the business units and the corporate departments is not a one-off activity but instead needs to be a continual area of focus for Procurement leadership. One should also make every effort to stay away from supply chain ‘mumbo jumbo’ and begin communicating goals and value delivered using the language of finance that is understood by all.
