Technology innovations, a more processed approach to buying and the advent of global sourcing have all bolstered the procurement profession over the past 20 years. This has had an incredible impact on profit growth in U.S. corporations. As we look ahead, we should expect to see additional macro changes that will have a significant impact on the procurement profession. Being nimble enough to adapt to those changes will enable the ability to fund growth in corporations. This presentation explores some examples of potential changes and also invites delegates to have a dialogue on we might expect and how we need to start thinking about preparing to change.

Topics in this session included:

  • Examples of how procurement has contributed to U.S. corporate profit growth
  • The effect of the “great recession” and other recent developments on procurement’s contributions and the profession
  • The global changes that could shape procurement into the year 2020 and beyond
  • How the procurement profession may need to adapt in light of expected changes
