Minneapolis is a leading high tech city, consistently rating above average
nationally in areas such as energy efficient buildings, high tech mass
transportation systems, University related research and development,
percentage of work force with advanced degrees, a municipal Wi-Fi
system and intelligent transportations systems, to name just a few.
The City’s information technology services, the Business Information
Services Department, has been recognized for technical excellence in the
areas of its Municipal Wireless Broadband and its computer-aided
dispatch (CAD) system. These systems were instrumental in the City’s
rapid emergency response to its I-35W bridge collapse tragedy. The City of Minneapolis originally outsourced its information technology
infrastructure services in 2003, fairly early in time for municipal
outsourcing. Lynn Willenbring, Chief Information Officer and Michael Leszczuk, Project Manager at EquaTerra will talk about the three phases of outsourcing with the Minneapolis case study.
