Small service providers (especially independent contractors) can be the most vital links in some companies supply chains. Often times each provider gets lost in the complex spend categories because you don’t have the time or resources to devote to them. These are those expert consultants in IT or Marketing or the PR or Legal Gurus. But you know, left unmanaged, large enterprises can be exposed to compliance issues, invisible sole source contracts, incomplete projects and liability risks. The task of managing small businesses by large enterprises comes with its own challenges, not the least of which is how to fund the program. This discussion will review the need for a small service provider program and the ROI related to standing up and running a program. For those that already manage these suppliers under a centralized program, we will also discuss how mature programs can be refined and gain further benefits.
