Procurement professionals tasked with putting together a world-class procurement team primarily draw from their own experience and others with similar experiences to arrive at an “optimal” organizational structure. This often results in a specialized, highly structured organization that has no choice but to repeat the successes, and failures, of the past. In today’s environment of constant change and continuous improvement, it may be time to take a fresh look at this process. In this session, an industry outsider and newly minted CPO, will share his journey to determine the best structure for his organization, drawing on a diverse background of law, business, operations, sales and risk (but not procurement) to arrive at his own formula for building a world class, high performing, procurement team. This session will be useful to anyone, either leading a team or part of a team, who is interested in how someone with no true procurement background approaches a challenge we all will face, in one form or another, in our careers.
