Creating a multi-year strategic plan that endures, and is actually executed, is a real challenge. Seemingly great plans can be upended by the rapid pace of change, shifting priorities, and the crowding out of the “important” to make room for the “urgent”. However building the organizational competencies critical to ongoing success takes time and focused effort. Additionally, a strategic plan can help provide employees with purpose and progress in their work, which are widely considered to be core intrinsic motivators. This presentation shares how we’ve improved our procurement strategic planning at eBay and the lessons learned along the way. I’ll also highlight our progress on one of the competencies prioritized in our plan, supplier risk mitigation. I’ll explain our program approach to risk and present a case study of a successful supplier risk mitigation project here at eBay.
