The New Project Economy: How to Build an Agile Consultant Workforce

Procurement professionals are constantly tasked with getting expertise to supplement their organization’s core competencies. Talent acquisition is also tasked to bring in talent that will transform a department as their business changes and new skills are needed to compete. Sometimes the best resource is a consultant with relationships at the business level and expertise that is beyond what you can afford in the available role. Other times you must find a subject matter expert who is a niche provider and would never consider regular employment. Engaging the independent consultants may be an excellent alternative to building out or overhauling a department. But a consultant may present other challenges like, where do you find them? and how do you transfer their knowledge to your employees? There are also the risks like misclassification and co-employment. As business has moved to an "On-Demand" form of talent delivery, savvy Category Managers are aligning their consultants with talent acquisition teams and building a virtual bench. How do you re-align your sourcing, talent acquisition and line management team to create a new solution for getting work done in an evolving organization? This session will focus on how this approach has worked in small, medium and large organizations.
