In John Sculley’s recently published book, Moonshot, John has identified four game-changing technologies of today – cloud computing, wireless sensors, Big Data and mobile devices. In this presentation, John talked about the impact of these game-changing technologies in “The New American Workforce.” Today, nearly 25 percent of the U.S. workforce is made up of independent contractors and forecasted to be 40 percent by 2020. As enterprises are adapting to project-based work, they need new technologies to enable workers to collaborate, as well as analytics to help the organization maximize its labor spend. In partnership with Human Resources, procurement leaders will play an increasingly important role as the non-employee population grows, from sourcing and pricing to onboarding. John’s presentation focused on the rise of free agent labor in the marketplace; outlining the contributing factors to its growth and ways to leverage this trend by reducing costs, leveraging outside knowledge and increasing efficiencies.
