Innovation can be defined in many different ways and found in several different areas. Science, technology and research parks are highly specialized areas of innovation and play a key role in the economic development of their environment by enhancing the competitiveness of companies and entrepreneurs in their respective cities and regions. The efforts that Latin America is undertaking to increase innovation and to become a more competitive region cannot be overlooked. Just recently, Medellin, Colombia was named the most innovative city in the world, beating both New York and Tel Aviv.
