Over five years into a recovery and questions about the economic climate continue to fill the media. This session will provide a timely overview of the current national and regional economic environments with a focus on challenges to the ongoing recovery. This will include the recent resurgence in domestic manufacturing, the role of energy price movements on regional economic performance, the resolution of the “credit crunch” and the recent inflection in the residential and commercial real estate markets. Special emphasis will be placed on the linkages between the real estate markets and recent challenges in the financial services sector; the effect of changes in the competitive landscape on profitability in financial services; the outlook for consumer spending and the retail sector; and the implications of ongoing changes in the political and regulatory climate for businesses.
