Buy-Side and Sell-Side practitioners are each held to different targets, objectives, and timelines. Each side also has – often ingrained – perceptions of each other, and they often hinder us from success. As procurement technology has automated and simplified some of our work on the buy side, it has not always benefited our supply base. Sales practices have evolved but don’t often benefit us from the buy side. These operational and technological transformations have left stakeholders on both sides frustrated. How do we each view ourselves and the other, and how best can we garner and grow effective partnerships? We will explore the power of empathy, the effects of time, resources, culture, and project scope, the importance of doing your homework, and how to be transparent and communicate in the age of speed and disruption.
