The onus on businesses to ‘do the right thing’ isn’t new. Nor is the wisdom in taking all possible steps to prevent unethical and criminal practices that can impact heavily on brand reputation, leadership stability, employee morale and profits. There is, however, abundant evidence that this aspect of business has reached a game-changing turning point, driven by such factors as the globalizing of trade and regulation, increased consumer activism, and the speed and scale of news and social media.
