The 10-campus University of California (UC) was challenged to save $200 million annually within five years as part of the “Working Smarter” initiative. This included acquiring ancillary purchasing applications and analytics to supplement existing systems and processes, and implementing them across ten largely decentralized campuses moving to a center-led operating model. In addition to providing a background on UC and the $200 million challenge, this presentation will cover successes, challenges and timelines specifically involved at UCLA.

Topics in this session included:

  • A background on purchasing technologies and analytics
  • Challenges in the timelines
  • Lessons learned in the implementations
  • The current status of initiatives
  • How they are progressing toward delivering on $200 million in annual savings
