In 2015, world leaders came together at the United Nations and adopted a global plan to fight poverty, inequality and injustice, protect our planet and ultimately improve our collective future. Called the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the plan is predicated on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which use laymen’s terms to define a better world. If the plan is to succeed over the next 15 years, the private sector is required to play an important role. Supply chains in particular offer significant opportunities to make a difference, yet studies have shown that few companies have yet to embrace sustainability in any kind of meaningful way. Although many companies make public claims about embracing sustainability in their strategies, these verbal commitments filter slowly into supply chains for implementation, and only a handful have provided concrete actions plans. This session provided an imperative for sustainability, and will showcase best practices in embracing sustainability in supply chains.
Topics covered in this session included:
- How to frame sustainability as a risk mitigation process, innovation strategy and business opportunity in supply chains
- About the UN 2030 Agenda, 17 SDGs and the role of private sector supply chains
- Qualitative and quantitative benchmarks for embracing sustainability in supply chains
- What’s to come on the road ahead, including trends, best practices, challenges and opportunities
